Chapter One

One Small Decision Changed Everything

No business plan. No investors. No grand vision. Just one woman sitting in a coffee shop with a cup of tea.

Ironically, I don't even drink coffee.

At the time, my long-distance girlfriend and I were preparing to take one of the biggest steps in our relationship — we were finally moving to the same city.

One thought kept coming back to me: how is she going to make friends?

I didn't want the woman I loved to arrive in a new city and feel alone. So I started looking for ways to help her build connections. That's when I came across a local Meetup group called The Real Lesbians of Orange County.

Rather than letting the community disappear, I took it over. I wasn't starting a business. I was trying to solve a problem.

Chapter Two

Building Community, One Event at a Time

Almost nobody came. I kept hosting them anyway.

  1. 1

    In the beginning

Almost nobody came. I hosted event after event. Sometimes no one showed up. Sometimes only one or two women attended.

  2. 2

    But I kept going

Because I believed if women were looking for community, someone had to keep creating opportunities for them to find it.

  3. 3

    Little by little

Attendance grew. Conversations became friendships. Friendships turned into chosen family.

  4. 4

    The community became real

Women began inviting other women. It slowly became exactly what I'd hoped — a place where people felt they belonged.

Chapter Three

We Started Hearing Different Questions

As the community grew, I noticed something unexpected.

Women weren't only coming to make friends. They were asking questions that had very little to do with finding events.

The conversations became deeper. The need became clearer. Women weren't simply looking for community — they were looking for guidance, support, understanding, healthy relationships, and personal growth. Community had opened the door, but there was an opportunity to help women even further.

"Is she flirting with me or just being nice?"

"How do I communicate without shutting down?"

"Why do I keep ending up in the same relationship?"

"How do I set healthy boundaries?"

"How do I heal after heartbreak?"

"Why does dating feel so confusing?"

"Will God hate me?"

"How do I overcome internalized homophobia?"

"How do I stop feeling alone?"

Chapter Four
